Last year, the 20 Things project ran a wonderful holiday auction and donated the proceeds (over $2000!!) to ten nonprofit organizations. Details here:
www.20things.org/auction.html
This year, I'm hoping to do this again, but in a slightly different way:
- Artists will make work for the auction and select the nonprofit of their choice to donate the proceeds.
- Artists will then list their work on Ebay directly, and forward me the link for that auction item.
- I will post that link to the 20things site for the duration of the auction, which should send a lot of traffic to each piece.
- The winning bidder will pay the artist directly and the artist will make the donation directly.
While decentralizing the process in this way opens the possibility of things going awry, it also means that there is less work for me, which, in turn, means that I'd actually have time to do this again this year.
I'm really excited about it, and hope that people will make and purchase work again this year.
Specific deadlines TBD, but if you want to start making work for the auction, please do.

Re: Benefit auction
Mon, January 5, 2004 - 9:21 AMHi Judith...well, including Gift Aid (a way of claiming extra money for charities from taxes) and an extra donation my final total was £30...so, that's about $54
Thanks for running such a great idea :)
