There's a great article in SFGate about the 1000 Journals project.
www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi
I'm a big fan of the project, and am thrilled to see the coverage. I'm also thrilled to see a 20 Things mention - but there's one thing that frustrates me...
The article says: "The 20 Things project (www.20things.org) invites artists to submit 20 small works to be traded for 20 works by another artist."
Which isn't really the way the project works - each artist makes 20 small works and then trades them for one small work from each of 19 other artists (plus one of their own). I find that no matter how clearly I think I explain this on the site (and I've tried several different ways), this is the single aspect of the project people just don't quite grasp immediately.
Any ideas for how I should communicate this more clearly?

Hi Judith,
I think you just did. Somehow stressing the 19+1 detail helps clear it up.
I admit, it took a while before I fully comprehended the mechanics of the swap too. And even now, when I am describing it to other people, it seems fuzzy at first.
Maybe it's just that the 20 Things concept so challenges the notion of the "traditional" capitalist exchange, that it naturally takes a while to sink in. Not a bad thing, though I can see how it might frustrate you.

hi judith,
i hope to see you at the party ;) i read your post and it seems pretty clear to me. but i think that if you include the word XXXXX people will understand the project better. As in:
the 20things project:
1. Start project by creating 20 small art pieces.
2. Set one aside for yourself.
3. Invite others to trade one of their own art pieces with you.
4. Continue until you have 19 new art pieces.
Resolution- 20 different art pieces made by 20 different artists ;) Thrilling isn't it!
Take care and happy halloween ;)
Carlos.
